Chief Executive
John Lee has been the Chief Executive since July 2022. The Chief Executive is the head of the Hong Kong government and is elected by a 1,500-member Election Committee, then appointed by the Central People’s Government.
Executive Council
The Executive Council advises the Chief Executive on policy matters. Members include principal officials and non-official members appointed by the Chief Executive.
Legislative Council
90 seats: 40 elected by the Election Committee, 30 from functional constituencies, and 20 from geographical constituencies. Members serve 4-year terms.
District Councils
18 District Councils provide advice on local matters.
Judiciary
Hong Kong maintains a common law legal system under the Basic Law, with the Court of Final Appeal as the highest court.
